Art in Parker State Forest
by Walter Kittredge
Last summer while out collecting plants in the Forest, I encountered a group of artists at the Collins and Field Pond parking area who were painting the lovely green and blue pond landscapes. Among all the great paintings one in particular caught my eye, and I knew I wanted it even at this unfinished stage. My wife is also an artist, and I have been fortunate to watch the fascinating progression of a painting from beginning to end, so I knew this was going to be beautiful. I asked the young woman artist, Emily Guo, if I could buy her painting, and she was agreeable to the idea. She said that once she had finished it and entered it into a contest she would contact me. I was thrilled then when she wrote to tell me that her painting had placed in the top 5%, a high merit prize in the Celebrating Art contest. Emily has been painting since she was in Kindergarten, and creating art has been her passion ever since. She is now a sophomore in the Brookline High School, and would like to become a cosmetic surgeon. The group she was painting with is the YuanAn Cheng painting camp: https://chengyuanan.com/
